2022 Watershed Awards
2022 Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District Award Recipient:
HyLife
In 1994, the business that would soon grow into the Hylife company was founded in the rural municipality of La Broquerie. Known internationally as a leading hog producer, Hylife also operates JV Ranch running cattle as well as rearing hogs.
As one of the biggest landowners within the Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District (SRRWD), Hylife has developed an excellent working relationship with our Watershed District. Hylife is a leader in the community and plays an integral role on our ALUS/GROW committee. They have had a representative on the committee since its inception, playing a key role in building the SRRWD Alternative Land Use program across the district.
Hylife’s openness to discussing best management practices and how they can improve the environmental footprint of their operations has led to numerous opportunities for partnership between Hylife and Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District. Over the years, this has included the construction of 4 water retention projects, the installation of just as many alternative watering systems, as well as numerous dugout and wetland fencing projects. Together, these projects help address local water management issues and provide environmental benefits.
The Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District recognizes Hylife as this year’s Manitoba Association of Watersheds Watershed District Award for exemplifying sustainable on-farm best management practices in their community, and for their outstanding commitment to the health of the watershed.
